Polychlorinated Biphenyl Residues in Milk of Environmentally and Experimentally Contaminated Cows
نویسنده
چکیده
Polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) t residues have been found in the milk of cows. In some instances the residue levels exceeded the FDA guideline 0.2 ppm in milk (equivalent to 5.0 ppm in milk, fat), and the milk was removed from the market. The major source of PCB residues in milk is Aroclor 1254 that has been used in coatings for concrete silos. Aroclor 1254 is unaltered in silos, and most of the contamination is adjacent to the walls (1, 2). We have observed a number of farms with PCB-treated silos and have fed Aroclor 1254 to cows under controlled conditions. This paper summarizes our major findings.

Distribution and kinetics of PBB residues in cattle.
Cows fed a constant amount of polybrominated biphenyl (PBB) reached a steady-state concentration in milk fat within 30 days. This concentration was approximately four times the concentration in the total diet. When feeding of PBB was stopped, the concentration in milk was adequately described as a sum of two first-order elimination rates. Biological half-life in environmentally contaminated cow...
متن کاملPhytoremediation of polychlorinated biphenyl-contaminated soils: the rhizosphere effect.
The objective in the first phase of this study was to screen alfalfa, flatpea, sericea lespedeza, deertongue, reed canarygrass, switchgrass, and tall fescue for phytoremediation of polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB)-contaminated soil. During the second phase, the focus was rhizosphere characterization to optimize PCB phytoremediation. Aroclor 1248 (PCB) was added to soil at 100 mg x kg(-1) of soil....

Introduction: The presence of antibiotic residues in food products of animal origin, especially milk and meat, and their consumption can cause serious side effects for human health. The purpose of this study was to monitor antibiotics residues in raw and pasteurized milk produced in Elam province of Iran during the spring and summer of 2012. Material and Methods: For this purpose, 9 industrial ...
متن کاملIdentification of Aflatoxin Contamination in the Milk of Cows Fed on Moldy Dry Bread as a Part of Their Ration
Introduction: Contamination of foodstuffs with fungi and the toxins produced by them is a very important problem in human and animal feeding. In most villages around Shiraz, in small-scale dairy farms, dry leftover bread which is mostly contaminated with fungi is used as a part of food ration for animals. The thin-layer chromatographic method which was used for determination of aflatoxin. Inges...
متن کاملDraft Genome Sequence of the Polychlorinated Biphenyl-Degrading Bacterium Cupriavidus basilensis KF708 (NBRC 110671) Isolated from Biphenyl-Contaminated Soil
We report the draft genome sequence of Cupriavidus basilensis KF708 (NBRC 110671), which utilizes biphenyl as a sole carbon source and degrades polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). The KF708 strain possesses genes for biphenyl catabolism and other genes involved in various aromatic compounds.
